As Salaamu Alaikum,
This week’s topic requires more reflection from us. Ask yourself, am I spiritually and emotionally prepared to carry something big?
Think about the women who came before us.
Khadijah bint Khuwaylid (RA) had wealth, business success, and social standing. Yet her wealth did not become her identity, it became a resource she used in service of Allah, His Messenger ﷺ, and the early Muslim community.
Aisha bint Abi Bakr (RA) was given extraordinary knowledge and influence. She didn't keep that knowledge to herself. She taught, advised, narrated, and became a source of beneficial knowledge for generations after her.
Fatimah al-Fihri inherited wealth and used it to establish a center of learning whose legacy endured far beyond her lifetime.
These women remind us that having more isn't necessarily the danger.
The question is who we become when more arrives. More money can expose what is already in the heart. More influence can amplify what is already in our character.
More responsibility can reveal whether we've developed the capacity to steward what we prayed for.
Be careful what you pray for.
Here are three ways you can build big without losing yourself:
Build your relationship with Allah before you build your influence. Success can increase your options, visibility, and responsibilities. Protect the practices that keep you anchored: salah, du’a, Qur’an, gratitude, and honest self-reflection. Your growth should never require sacrificing the One who gave you the opportunity to grow.
Treat success as an amanah, not an identity. You are not your revenue, title, followers, accomplishments, or reputation. Those things can change overnight. Ask yourself regularly: “What has Allah entrusted to me, and how am I using it?” Khadijah (RA) is such a powerful example because her wealth was something she stewarded; it wasn't the source of her worth.
Strengthen the woman before expanding what she carries. Don't only develop your business capacity. Develop your emotional and spiritual capacity. Pay attention to the internal voices—the fear, perfectionism, comparison, overachievement, or need for approval—that become louder as your responsibilities increase. Positive Intelligence describes these patterns as “Saboteurs”; sustainable growth requires recognizing and weakening the patterns that interfere with how we lead.
Build the business. Build the wealth. Build the influence. But build the woman who will carry it, too.
With love,
Coach N’aimah
